Description: New ImageESCORT Introduces the Ultimate Real-time Ticket Protection Network– ESCORT LIVE!

ESCORT Inc (www.escortinc.com) has announced the introduction of ESCORT Live™, the ultimate real-time ticket protection network.  ESCORT Live™ is the social network for the road where drivers share live alerts with other drivers so everyone in the network can drive smarter.

ESCORT Live™, now available directly from ESCORT, uses Bluetooth technology embedded in SmartCord Live™ cords and a unique app for the driver’s smartphone. When alerts are detected, they are transmitted to the ESCORT Live™ “cloud” and then broadcast across the ESCORT Live™ network, notifying drivers of potential ticket threats.  In addition to these live alerts, ESCORT’s industry leading Defender® database of fixed position cameras and speed traps is also provided.

“ESCORT can provide the most advanced radar and laser defense on the market by utilizing the power of real-time, cloud-based sharing among drivers,” ESCORT President and CEO John Larson says. “ESCORT Live is the social network for the road so you can know sooner, react faster and Drive Smarter.”

The key to ESCORT Live™ is real-time national reach and scale. Currently there are more than a million compatible ESCORT or BELTRONICS radar detectors on the road in the United States. Multiply this data gathering and sharing process by millions of miles and driving hours and the result is a nation of protected ESCORT Live™ drivers.

Here’s how it works: Imagine departing for the morning commute.  Your neighbor’s ESCORT radar detector encounters a laser gun; that alert information is relayed immediately to the ESCORT Live™ network as a confirmed ”laser detected” threat.  Later, as you head in the same direction, even when you are miles away from the waiting laser gun, your smartphone equipped with the ESCORT Live™ app displays a red “laser spotted” alert before you are in range.

ESCORT Live™ alerts are displayed with band, signal strength and frequency.  Events spotted previously in the network are indicated by an “approaching live alert” message with directional location arrow and distance-to-arrive to the alert source.

Alerts appear at their coordinate location and are marked with an intuitive “heat map” decaying icon that changes color and transparency based on alert relevance.

The ESCORT Live™ app provides the latest available information on speed cameras, speed traps and speed limit data.  Important driving data is displayed for compass heading, vehicle speed and over-speed alerts.  Users are automatically updated with the latest detector software to optimize performance and eliminate false alerts.  The app features map and dashboard views with multiple alert settings based on user preference.

“Following an ESCORT Live™ driver yields excellent information about what lies ahead because the first vehicle’s alerts are seamlessly transmitted to other cars equipped with the ESCORT Live™ app,” Larson says. “ESCORT Live™ is about drivers helping drivers in the ultimate live alert network.”

ESCORT Live™ is available for select model iPhones and Android-equipped smart phones. Current ESCORT owners with compatible detectors can purchase the SmartCord Live power cord, smart phone app and ESCORT Live™ subscription through 2012 for a special introductory price of $79.95. For a limited time, customers can also purchase the ultimate live ticket protection package which includes a new ESCORT radar detector equipped with ESCORT Live™ through 2012 for a $100 savings.

“Our radar detector products have always provided drivers with the highest level of ticket protection in the marketplace,” Larson says.  “Now, with ESCORT Live™, ESCORT drivers don’t need to be in the range of the threat, they just need to be in the network!”  Get more details on the revolutionary ESCORT Live™ network at www.escortinc.com/escort-live or call 800.433.3487.

World PC Shipments May Increase by 7.1% in 2012, Researcher MIC Says

Tablets Likely to Lead Growth, Help Taiwan Brands Gain Global Market Share, According to MIC

October. 1, 2012 Global PC shipments will grow by 7.1 percent in 2013, with tablets computers providing the main momentum, Taiwan research organization Market Intelligence Center (MIC) said in a report released late last year.

Shipments in 2013 will increase to 300 million units from 270 million units in 2012, according to MIC, an organization partially funded by the Taiwan government. MIC defines notebook PCs as products with display sizes of 10.4 inches and larger and netbook PCs as products with display sizes between 7 inches and 10.2 inches.

In 2011, was the first time in the nearly 30-year history of the personal computer, shipments of notebook computers will exceed desktop computers as unit sales of netbooks double, MIC said.
“Although netbook PC shipments will see significant growth rates, this product type is only in the early stages of development," MIC analyst Nicole Huang said in a Nov. 25 report. "The global notebook PC industry is about to enter maturity. This development towards maturity will be further pushed by the weakness of the overall economy.”

A recession that is spreading globally has eroded optimistic expectations early in 2012 for growth in the global PC market. PC buyers are likely to prefer computers that are more affordable, allow greater mobility and provide lower power consumption, according to MIC.

Taiwan PC brands will have the advantage in providing netbook computers to gain global market share in 2013, the research organization said.

In October 2007, Taiwan’s Asustek Computer launched the world’s first Eee PC, a miniature notebook computer with wireless internet connectivity and other consumer-oriented features. The Eee PC since became one of the hit products during 2008 in the PC business. Following Asustek’s lead, the world’s leading vendors have rushed to offer similar products.

Two vendors that had a strong focus and acted quickly in the mini-notebook segment are Asustek and Acer Inc., U.S. market research firm Gartner Inc. said in October, adding that both companies experienced robust growth. Although most major vendors now have their own mini-notebook offerings, it will be a challenge for these vendors to match or beat the market expansion that Asustek and Acer have attained so far during this year, Gartner said.

Taiwan companies account for about 90 percent of the world’s notebook PC production, and most of these companies manufacture their products under contact for the world’s largest brand name companies in the business.

Global notebook shipments next year will increase by 11.3 percent to about 138 million units from 124 million units in 2012, according to MIC. Netbook shipments next year will more than double to 22.6 million units from 11.2 million in 2013, MIC said.

Acer and Asustek are among the first companies in Taiwan’s PC industry to focus on building their brands in the global market. Acer created its brand name more than a decade ago, while Asustek has more recently adopted Asus as its brand name.

To promote the island’s industry, the Taiwan government has made the development of branding the key task for raising the competitiveness of Taiwan’s economy. There are two ultimate goals of the Branding Taiwan program. The first is integrating resources to assist the establishment of brands and create a favorable environment for development; the second is to aid Taiwan enterprises in brand development and increase the value of Taiwan’s international brands.

MAKE YOUR OWN ROBOT FOR THE HOLIDAYS WITH ALIBRE

Kids & Adults Create Robots with Alibre DIY 3D Design at Home, School, & Work:

·        Robot that Walks & Sees

·        GPS Unmanned Robot Vehicle

·        Artistic Robot

Dallas, TX, November 18, 2010 - Alibre, Inc. www.alibre.com, the award-winning developer of the world’s most affordable professional 3D design software, announced today that Alibre Design 3D lets you create your own robots for the holidays.  The perfect holiday gift for anyone that loves science and creating robots, inventions, and gadgets, the award-winning Alibre Design was used by kids and adults to create one-of-a-kind robots, including “Stance” the walking robot, the “Skunksworks Lab” GPS controlled unmanned vehicle robot, and “SADBot,” the drawing robot that creates art according to the season and weather.

“Stance,” the Biped Rebot that Walks & Sees

“Stance,” is a biped walking robot with a smooth human-like gait, created using Alibre Design, by Josh Sanderson, President of JGS Technical.  “Stance” walks through remote control and “sees” through a high-definition video camera.  Unlike most hobbyist robots that have a spasmodic and abrupt walk, the “Stance” robot walks smoother, with more realistic motion.  Sanderson found it is easy to build a customized robot using Alibre.  Once the basics of his design were created in 3D with Alibre, Sanderson tweaked it with the information he got from his study of walking, and added custom parts created in Alibre.  Alibre Design’s parametric controls allowed him to exactly adjust sizes and positions of parts during his experiments.

Do It Yourself Robot at Home

Anyone can create a robot like “Stance, which was made using Alibre Design with the basic building blocks of a small motor, servo, and mounting bracket from the hobbyist dealer, Lynxmotion’s Servo Erector Set.  Lynxmotion provides 3D part models in Alibre’s format, so designers can choose to configure the components in many different ways.  “If I need to make custom parts, it’s simpler to do the fitting on the 3D model with Alibre.  All the accurate measurements are right there,” Sanderson explains.  “I can adjust each of the parameters and have the models react immediately.  Alibre Design is a high-level parametric modeler, which makes it ideal for prototypes.”

Students Create Award-Winning Unmanned Vehicle Robot

Students from the Southern Methodist University (SMU) SkunkWorks Lab created a GPS controlled unmanned vehicle robot activated via a cell phone interface.  Under the supervision of Nathan Huntoon, Director of the Innovation Gymnasium, SMU, the SkunkWorks Lab used Alibre to design all the parts of their vehicle, before they even built it.  “What is amazing, is the students designed the vehicle in 3D first and when it came time to fit all the parts together, every piece fell in place perfectly,” said Huntoon.  The Skunkworks Lab recently displayed their award-winning design at the TEDxSMU event in Dallas.

Solar-Powered Artistic Robot Created for New York City Gallery

Dustyn Roberts, Founder of Dustyn Robots, used Alibre Design to create SADbot (Seasonally Affected Drawing Robot), a solar powered, interactive drawing robot created in partnership with Ben Leduc-Mills for the Eyebeam Window Gallery in New York City.  Roberts and Leduc-Mills used two 18.5” x 13” solar panels to power two stepper motors which controlled a pen in two dimensions.  SADbot took input from people walking outside the gallery window by using a set of sensors which tell how much light they’re getting (photocells).  SADbot knew if someone was covering up one of the sensors, and could change its drawing behavior accordingly.  SADbot was also recently on display at the Maker Faire convention for inventors and makers, held September 2010 in NY.

New Alibre Design 2011 with Dramatic Improvements - Makes it Easier to Create a Robot

The winner of Maker Faire Detroit’s “Editor’s Choice” 2010 Award, Alibre is providing exciting new ways for people to create and design robots and gadgets in 3D.  Alibre recently announced the more powerful Alibre Design 2011 with dramatic improvements in ease-of-use, efficiency and performance.  Priced thousands less than competitors, starting at only $99 for Personal Edition (PE), $699 for Professional, and $1399 for Expert, new improvements and features include a full port of the code to C# (making it the first native 64-bit version), powerful sheet metal conversion tools, and a myriad of time saving tools and customization features.

“Alibre Design 2011 lets people take their vision and turn it into a reality in record time by digitally prototyping or printing their 3D models, enabling everyone, from adults, kids, DIYers, inventors, tinkerers, entrepreneurs, designers, engineers and scientists to become entrepreneurs and set-up their own businesses in their homes and garages,” said J. Paul Grayson, Chairman and CEO, Alibre Inc.
